History of the Trophy

Between August 21 and 29, 2009, Pombal hosted the World Model Aircraft Championship, in its most technically advanced modality: Radio-controlled Acrobatics. For this event, the largest runway in Portugal and one of the largest in Europe was built, the Pista Internacional de Aeromodelismo do Casalinho, 1 km long and 16 m wide. For 10 days, around 100 of the best pilots from 40 countries competed for the title of World Champion in aerobatic sequence tests with a high coefficient of difficulty, including maneuvers that are not possible to be performed by real planes. Four former world champions were present and, defending the title, current champion Quique Somenzini, from the USA.
